From Old to New: Stained Tablecloth Transformation

Don't know what to do with that stained Tablecloth? Can't give it away, so why not use it as part of a fun summertime kids' project and transform that stained tablecloth into a festive outdoor tablecloth!

From Old to New: Stained Tablecloth Transformation

I found this summer craft project on miycreations by Maddylane

Previously, I’ve reused stained tablecloths as drop cloths for painting my house.  This is an infinitely more fun version of the same idea.  Lay the old tablecloth in the grass.  Fill water guns with fabric paint and let the kids go all Jackson Pollack on your old tablecloth.  A fun project for a group of kids on a sunny day and you get a festive summer time tablecloth out of it, too.

The miycreations website has a list of materials needed and excellent instructions.  My one warning is to really make sure that you dilute the fabric paint to at least 50% water.  The cheap water guns I used got gummed up with the paint pretty quickly.  Fortunately, it was still a messy good time.

I am thinking this might be great for stained white napkins too! I may try it this summer. What a great birthday party idea, too, but have kids bring old stained T-shirts. They get to decorate them at the party... the tricky part would be having them take them home wet... hmmm. may have to re-think that one, but love the idea.

Thank you!

It only took about an hour for the shirts to dry enough to go home.

I did this craft with four four-year-olds and one six-year-old. I made reverse stencils out of cardboard and used t-shirts instead of table cloths. The boys were extraordinarily excited about the water guns, and definitely had an awesome morning. Thanks for the idea!
