More CoolMom Neighborhood Groups Forming

 

CoolMom Groups are on fire!  The Greenwood and West Seattle CoolMoms kicked off their first meetings, now with 60+ members each!  New CoolMom Groups are being planned in NE Seattle, Madison Valley, Ballard, Lake Forest Park and more!  A New Coordinator Orientation is scheduled for Sat, May 3rd, from3-5pm.  Contact Director Kirsten McCaa at Kirsten@CoolMom.org to join the orientation or to start your own CoolMom Group.  See your neighborhood below?  Contact these moms to join a group:

The Greenwood CoolMoms are mitigating climate change with their transportation choices! Moms picked a Fuel Free Family Day each week.  At an energized kickoff meeting, creative action ideas ranged from planning bus trips as a fun activity for kids to organizing carpools for Greenwood CoolMoms.  Next meeting: May 15.  See Events below for details.

The Magnolia CoolMoms won a grant and are promoting Fuel Free Routes to School at 2 Magnolia schools!  School meetings were held to recruit more volunteers to lead Walking School Buses.  Lawton kicks May off with 2 of 5 routes now going 5 days a week and Blaine increased their volunteer list.  No Idling signs and Walking School Bus “Stop Signs” are planned.  More volunteers are sought to lead routes. Due to popular demand, we will have our first orientation for new Coordinators of CoolMom.org neighborhood Groups!  In this orientation, director Kirsten McCaa will share information to help you start a CoolMom Group in your neighborhood. Coordinators of existing CoolMom Groups will provide tips and answer questions.

Come out and discover the Green Leaders of West Seattle while you get your "Undrivers License" and 10 free Metro bus tickets!  Listen to a variety speakers including Dow Constantine and Richard Conlin.  Don't miss the 10:30 main stage presentation by Phil Mitchell about Climate Action Leadership and the 12:20 session by Lars Henrickson from Seattle City Light about energy efficiency.  Much much more including Bike maintenance and a variety of workshops. Join the West Seattle CoolMoms for their second meeting of taking action to curb global warming. Shauna Causey from Water Without Waste to give a short presentation on the dangers of bottled water.  Zach Zink from Longfellow Creek Gardens talk about his edible landscape project in West Seattle that helps train and teach his volunteers (old and young) to create their own edible landscape.  Team up with your Action Group (or join one!) based on everyone's ideas from our kickoff meeting last month.
